Mental materials: Green Day resource

By Anna Wexler, Education advisor, CABE | 22 March 2010

Download the free Cross curricular project plan on the theme of Materials using CABE’s Green Day resources (Word doc).

Get your pupils measuring, campaigning, comparing, imagining, creating, investigating and evaluating. Help them learn about how materials are used in buildings and spaces, and develop their own opinions about their environment.

This cross curricular plan is designed to support teachers in planning a series of lessons for key stages 1 or 2 focusing on the theme of materials. The activities help pupils to explore the connections between materials, sustainability and the buildings and spaces around us. The detail of the suggested activities can be found in the Green Day teacher’s activity kit which is free to order or download.

Green Day is an event for schools aiming to help them run more sustainably. Over 1000 schools will take part between 4 June and 2 July, 2010. Let us know that you’re using this resource as part of a Green Day by registering to take part.

For more teaching ideas using buildings and places for inspiration, take a look at the Engaging Places teaching resources section.
