The Engaging Places project, by May Su & Adewumi Lawal
Amethyst Class took part in a project run by Engaging Places. The project started in the Autumn Term. We visited the Old Royal Naval College. Our class was very excited. We were thrilled because we were going on a trip. Jo and Caroline had prepared some work and we were keen to find out about it.

When Caroline the artist came to our class she brought pictures of the features of the ORNC so we would have some ideas about what to do. We enjoyed making stone heads with clay, and we made tiles as well. We made boxes, floors for our boxes, and ceilings to stick inside them to create a room of our own. Our class made windows and stuck them on the boxes.
I liked the Project very much, because when we went to the ORNC we looked at the symmetrical patterns on the floor, windows and walls. I liked the colours and the shapes; we made our own floors using sticky gum paper. We went out of school to look at buildings: I liked looking at the shapes the buildings made and I enjoyed sketching them.
In class we wrote stories with a familiar setting – going to the ORNC gave me the idea to use this as a setting in my story. Jo told us the story about John Worley and I used him as a character in my story. We wrote letters to Jo thanking her for inviting us to the ORNC.
Our class thought about designing a new school because our school is going to be demolished. We visited the Laban Centre to look at the building and see how it was made. It gave us ideas on our design for our new school.
