In small groups, year 4 Ospringe CE Primary School students actively responded to the question - how is our street a community and how can I impact upon it?

Working with Canterbury Christchurch University, year 4 teacher Lucy Hardy developed a two day project to enhance her student’s connection with their community.
As a whole class, students first discussed the definition of community and the values held by their local community.
In small groups (each supervised by an adult), students ventured down their school’s street, Water Lane. Through a series of focused activities, the students were encouraged to look at Water Lane from different angles and perspectives. One of the students, Adam Chilvers, commented, ‘I really enjoyed today because I liked looking at the street in ways I don’t normally’.
Each group used a planning sheet to develop a project they felt would create a positive change to their local environment.
