The Bristol and West Progressive Jewish Congregation is a lively congregation of around 140 members. Our Synagogue is in Bristol, though our members live in a wide area of the South West of England and South Wales and we are affiliated with the national Liberal Judaism movement.

The Synagogue building was bought in 1975, combined with the property next door in 1988 and expanded again in 2003. Services are held in the Sanctuary which can be extended into the adjoining area to accommodate larger numbers at communal events and includes a newly-equipped home cinema system. We have a substantial library housing more than one thousand volumes, several classrooms, offices for both Rabbi and Teachers as well as a Judaica Shop and a well-equipped vegetarian kitchen.

Synagogue School Visits

In the past, groups of secondary and primary school children have visited us. Small groups doing GCSE Religion have found it particularly useful.
Although the building is modest we can give a brief overview of Liberal Judaism and show the young people our Torah Scrolls. It is also a good opportunity for them to ask questions.

How to obtain

If you would like to arrange for a school party to visit the synagogue, please would you download the booking form from the School Visits section of our web site and e-mail it back to effie_romain@blueyonder.co.uk.
Tuesday and Wednesday are the preferred dates for synagogue visits. Please give us plenty of notice so that we can find a volunteer to host your visit.
We ask for a 'donation' of £25 per group.
