Futurelab is passionate about transforming the way people learn. Tapping into the huge potential offered by digital and other technologies, we develop innovative resources and practices that support new approaches to learning for the 21st century. A not-for-profit organisation, we work in partnership with others to:

incubate new ideas, taking them from the lab to the classroom

share hard evidence and practical advice to support the design and use of innovative learning tools

communicate the latest thinking and practice in educational ICT

provide the space for experimentation and the exchange of ideas between the creative, technology and education sectors.

Create-A-Scape

http://www.createascape.org.uk

A mediascape is composed of sounds, images and video placed outside in your local area.
To create a mediascape, you start with a digital map of your local area. Using free Create-A-Scape software, you can attach digital sounds, pictures and video to places that you choose on the map.
By going outside into the area the map covers with a handheld computer and headphones (and an optional GPS unit), you can hear the sounds and see the pictures and video in the places the author of the mediascape has put them.

How to obtain

Thinking Space

Thinking Space is a free workshop resource from CABE, Futurelab and Portsmouth City Council. It aims to support people who are thinking about, or currently undertaking, redesign and rebuild projects, including those involved in the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) and Primary Capital Programmes (PCP). The resource goes some way to addressing a need that has been identified by educationalists and other stakeholders, by providing a set of activities, tools and techniques that can be used to facilitate workshop sessions to help people in the visioning and pre-engagement phases of redesign and rebuild projects.
